Traffic cases in La Plata County split by agency and law source. The Durango Municipal Court keeps municipal summons files issued by the Durango Police Department, Fort Lewis College Police Department, and certain La Plata County Animal Protection matters within city limits. That split matters because paying the wrong office does not clear a court appearance in the court that actually owns the citation.
Search La Plata County Traffic Citations
For state traffic court dates, start with the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search. Pay or Contest La Plata County Tickets
A pay-or-contest decision depends first on the court. Durango Municipal Court says fines and fees can be paid through the Quicket Payment Platform, by check or money order, or in person at City Hall. The same page says anyone with a citation may appear in Municipal Court and speak with a City Prosecutor. Payment questions go to the court clerk.
Some Durango traffic citations require appearance and cannot be paid online. Accident-related citations require appearance. - For Durango Municipal Court, check whether the charge is on the must-appear list or tied to an accident.
- If the Durango matter is payable, use Quicket, check or money order, or in-person payment at City Hall.
- If contesting, or if the ticket is not payable online, appear on the listed court date and follow the court's instructions.
- For Sheriff or Colorado State Patrol citations, use the state docket and the Clerk of Court at the courthouse.
- Check Colorado myDMV separately if the issue is points, license status, or a driver history record.
The city-linked Quicket payment platform is one access channel, but it is not the right tool for state courthouse citations.
Use the court named on the citation before assuming an online payment clears the ticket.

La Plata County Traffic Record Limits
Traffic records can be public, but access still follows Colorado court access rules.
